Update Saturday 30th September

We've seen "heaps" of roads like this over the past week

For the past seven days we've explored the whole of Brisbane looking for something to travel in. There seems a distinct lack of affordable motor homes, its either top of the range luxury or something without the basic comforts of a toilet/shower. Instead we've purchased a caravan. Neither of us have ever towed anything before so its going to be a new experience for us. We'll post some pictures when the van is delivered but its a 2005 Jayco Expanda Pop Top. It expands upwards and outwards which means we get more space without towing something too large.

We've spent the past few days touring the car yards of Brisbane. We've seen a few vehicles that could be suitable and learnt alot about towing. Hopefully in the next few days we can sort something out.

Spent Saturday afternoon visiting my stepbrother Kevin and helping him get through some bottles of Tooheys. Tomorrow the car yards are shut so we get a day off to do things like washing and perhaps more drinking. So far we don't feel like we're on holiday as we've been driving around car yards during the day and searching the internet at night.

We wish we could have bought one of these houses with a private mooring,
but we've been far too busy....

Sunday 24th

Manly Harbour, Nr Brisbane
We went to look at motorhomes today but nowhere was open. You can go shopping in a supermarket or a bottle shop between 9am and 6pm on a Sunday but you can't buy a motorhome. We went for a drive along the coast to the seaside villages of Wynnum and Manly.

Nice birds around here!

Arrival

We have arrived safely in Brisbane. After a slightly delayed flight we experienced another hours delay at Brisbane airport whilst we stocked up on duty free bundy rum and vodka, which led to us being stuck behind 2 planes full of Koreans and Japanese at Passport Control. 33 hours after leaving our front door in the UK we arrived in Morningside on the outskirts of Brisbane. This is our Queenslander house which is home for a month. Its split into 2 apartments.

House and Car

Inside the House

Spent the first day unpacking and shopping for food. Its self catering for us from now on although we did have a Domino's pizza on the first night. Also had to get used to driving an automatic car, good job there was an instruction manual in the glovebox.

Spent Saturday at the local shopping mall buying a few household items and checking out the prices of things we might need to buy for our trip. Then caught the short train ride into Brisbane. Had a walk along the lovely South Bank with its inland beach before heading into the city centre.

Still trying to get over the jetlag. Got up at 5.30am on Saturday. Also trying to get used to the dark evenings. Its dark at 6pm despite being sunny and 28 degrees during the day.

Going to start looking for a van now.
