Byron Bay

26th October - We visited Byron Bay. A stop off for most travellers on the East Coast. After 5 weeks here we did our first bit of sunbathing on the beach.

After lunch we visited Cape Byron, the most easterly point of the Australin mainland.

It was a steep walk down to the end but worth it..

Ballina

After 4 days on the Gold Coast we left and headed for Ballina in New South Wales. Having passed through the town before, we knew it would be an ideal base for exploring this part of the state.
We finally have had chance to start relaxing here and feel like we are starting our holiday.

Don't you wish you could wake up to a view like this ?

The Gold Coast & Hinterland

On Friday 20th we left Brisbane and headed south to the Gold Coast for 4 nights. Successfully we managed to tow the caravan 100k down the road. The next day we visited the Mt Lamington National Park to see the rainforest. On the way we visited an alpaca farm.

Meet Roy "the stud"

After 20km of winding roads we arrived at the top to be met by Australian King Parrots and Crimson Rosellas.

Next we went on a walk through the rainforest which contains trees up to 2000 years old.

We then went on a tree top walk 20 metres above the rainforest floor.

The Gold Coast - Sunday saw a round of the Indy Car 300 championship run at Surfers Paradise. We spent the day revising for our written Australian driving test. On Monday morning we both successfully passed our tests with flying colours.
"We've Passed"

After receiving our licences we drove on the indy car circuit but within the speed limit.

Spent the rest of the day exploring areas of the Gold Coast we hadn't seen before like the Spit and Southport.

Cycling Brisbane

Our first cycle ride around Brisbane made us realise how hilly the city is and also how unfit we are. Mind you riding in 30 odd degrees is not something we are not used to.

Here we are totally knackered!

Transport

We have wheels at last. Here is the Nissan Navara which we have bought to tow the caravan.

Here are some external photos of the ute and the caravan.

Here is the caravan fully expanded with the awning and beds out. There is a queen sized bed and a double bed. Room for anyone who knows us who may want to visit !

Here is the inside of the caravan. Plenty of room for us to live in for a while.

And we have bikes as well.....

Not too bad for a fortnights hard work.
