The Great Ocean Road Pt 1 4/1
The Great Ocean Road is ranked among the top 20 journeys of a lifetime by the travel writers Conde Nast Traveller. It starts south of Geelong at Torquay and winds it way 200km west. We decided to split the journey into two parts to allow us time to undertake it at a more leisurely pace.

The route is populated with little bays and a few larger seaside towns like Anglesea (where there are Kangaroos on the golf course), Lorne and Apollo Bay.

We drove as far as Cape Otway today and intend to cover the second part of the journey next week.

It was a warm day at about 35 degrees. The area is notorious for its 4 seasons in a day and we were lucky it stayed clear today.

This is the Split Point Lighthouse at Airey's Inlet. It has featured in a number of films and TV productions such as Mad Max and the childrens TV programme Round the Twist which was shown in the UK during late 80's early 90's.

Without looking for it we found more wildlife today. Here is an Echidna we saw at Cape Otway. We have seen a few of these but this is the first one that we have managed to capture on camera.

We also saw several Koalas along the drive. This makes the road dangerous as everyone tries to stop quickly to look at them. This one was sitting in a tree at head height just outside a house on the Kennett River.
