Port Augusta 9/2 - 14/2

Port Augusta is known as the crossroads of Australia and was our base for a few days. From here you can go north to Darwin or west to Perth both over 3000 km away. To do the full trip around Oz you turn left to Perth, or the alternative is a shortcut through the centre.

Port Augusta is therefore a major transport hub for both road and railway.

The town itself has an impressive waterfront with the backdrop of the Flinders Ranges.

We visited the Yudnapanna Homestead, the only original pine log homestead in South Australia which was built 127 years ago.

Jayne decided to put David in the stocks and leave him there for a while. There was absolutely nothing he could do about it as he couldn't move.

The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Gardens offer views over the Flinders Ranges. It features native Australian plants plus wildlife like lizards, snakes and birds.

With the start of the Outback in the background and the warning signs to beware of snakes Jayne was keeping her feet well off the ground.

Just another colourful Australian sunset at the end of a hot day.
