Broome 1/4 to 4/4

We arrived in Broome and felt like we had achieved something getting this far. We went to Cable Beach, which is classed as one of the top 3 beaches in the World. Unfortunately we did not agree and felt it was slightly over rated compared to others around Australia.

We went to Gantheaume Point to view the original 130 million year old dinosaur footprints in the sandstone. These could only be seen at a very low tide and after an adventurous climb down the damp cliffs and boulders.

This is Jayne and David taking a rest at the top of the cliffs just after the return climb up, and as the sun was about to set.

The red Pindan cliffs looked beautiful as they changed colour slowly as the sun set.

The next day we went to watch the famous camel trains taking their sunset stroll along Cable Beach. David sat waiting patiently and felt like he was sitting on St Annes beach.

Whilst we waited Jayne took a stroll along the beach and found some washed up Coral.

The sunset came and so did the camel train. This is the picture everyone wants to catch, the camels silhouetted against the sinking sun.

Our campsite had a really nice swimming pool which was heated, so we decided to take advantage of a bit of spare time and take a dip.

We waited at Town Beach for the natural phenomenon known as the 'Staircase to the Moon'. This only occurs a couple of days a month from March to October and we were lucky enough to be in Broome at the right time to see it. As the moon rises it throws a reflection across the mudflats at low tide creating the image of a golden staircase right up to the moon. We tried our best to capture the event, but this picture doesn't really do it justice. The real thing was quite a spectacular image ! The only down side was that Jayne was bitten to death by loads of mozzies and sandflies and is now paying the price.
