The Grampians 12/1

Having based ourselves in Hamilton we made the trip to the Grampians National Park.

Here's David from the Boroka lookout. Unlike the Lake or Peak Districts in England the national parks in Australia don't get overcrowded at weekends. You can drive for miles without seeing anyone else.

Here is the Balconies. 47% of the Grampians were devastated by fire in January 2006. We visited the area on our honeymoon in 2002 and this time saw a different environment. The area is now gradually regrowing.

McKenzie Falls was next and despite the drought it was still flowing. We had a long walk down to the base of the falls and (what felt like) an even longer walk back uphill.

The area is rich with wildlife who are gradually returning to the area after the fire. This is a Kookaburra which is part of the Kingfisher family. Its monkey like screeches during the night can often keep you awake.

We saw lots of Emus and this family were walking towards us.
