Port Fairy to Portland 13/1

Port Fairy is a quaint little town and one of the earliest settled areas in Victoria in 1835.
The National Trust has classified about 50 buildings of historic value here. We have now visited Port Fairy twice on our travels to Australia and both times felt like we had stepped back in time and walked into an episode of 'The Sullivans', white picket fences and all.

Port Fairy was unusual as it actually had some life on a Saturday afternoon. There was a market and camel rides. Australia has a large number of camels and exports them abroad.

We drove along the Shipwreck Coast and Portland Bay to Portland. This is the lighthouse at Portland.

Next to Portland is Cape Bridgewater. Here the sea was very treacherous and crashed against the rocks.

Here's Jayne feeling brave and standing on the cliff edge with a rather large vertical drop behind her and the sea crashing against the rocks.

The Petrified Forest is a series of rock formations shaped like broken trees. Their formation is still a form of scientific debate. The area was also visited by Charles Darwin in 1836.
